No Filter: Real Talk About Sin and Redemption

A Bible Study on Hebrews 9 for Gen Z in Manila

Kick-off Question

If your life had an “activity log” like Instagram or TikTok, what posts would you rather hide from God? Why do we treat some sins like they’re no big deal?

The Problem: Sin We Can’t Swipe Away

  • In the Old Testament, priests offered animal sacrifices again and again to cover people’s sins.

  • But the blood of animals could only “sanitize the outside” (Hebrews 9:13).

  • Our problem goes deeper—guilt, shame, dead works (Hebrews 9:14).

  • We can hide sin from friends, delete DMs, or fake it online, but our conscience still knows.

๐Ÿ’ก Relatable hook: Like trying to use filters to erase a zit—it’s temporary. Sin is way deeper than skin-level.

The Solution: Jesus, Our Better High Priest

  • Jesus is not just another priest. He’s the ultimate High Priest in a better place—the throne room of God (Hebrews 9:11).

  • He didn’t bring goat or bull blood. He brought His own blood—once and for all (Hebrews 9:12).

  • His sacrifice was perfect because He was perfect: holy, innocent, unstained (Hebrews 7:26).

  • What animal sacrifices could never do, Jesus’ blood did—He cleanses us from the inside out.

๐Ÿ’ก Relatable hook: Think of a system upgrade. Jesus isn’t a patch or bug fix. He’s the full upgrade that makes the old system obsolete.

Why It Matters for Us

  1. Freedom from guilt and shame – Jesus’ blood purifies our conscience. No more living stuck in regret.

  2. Freedom to live differently – We’re not just saved from sin, but saved for serving God (Hebrews 9:14).

  3. Hope in a messy world – The promise isn’t just personal. Nations will one day unite under Jesus, the true King (Genesis 49:10; Isaiah 11:10).

Reflection Questions

  1. What “filters” do you use to hide sin—from God, from others, even from yourself?

  2. How does knowing Jesus’ sacrifice is “once for all” change how you deal with guilt and shame?

  3. What does it look like for you to serve “the living God” in Manila—at school, at home, online?

Challenge for the Week

Pick one “dead work” (a habit, sin, or guilt loop) that you’ve been stuck in. Write it down. Pray honestly, asking God to apply the blood of Jesus to cleanse your conscience. Then share with a trusted friend how you want to live free this week.
